Stopped by the Corinth Canal and saw some daredevil bungee jumpers and randomly stumbled on this AMAZING HIDDEN GEM. First of all, I’m an extreme grilled meat on a stick enthusiast whose sampled the best chuarrrr, yakitori, kebabs, etc across the world. This place is legit! Don’t let the modest exterior fool you: a small corner walk-up stand with a lone lady (wo)manning the grill and a single, but efficient waiter attending to diners. The pork souvlaki (€6 for four) were some of the best pork-on-a-stick I’ve had ANYWHERE. Small, bite sized cubes of park, thoughtfully layered between pieces of fat, and charred perfectly. The salt, oregano, and lemon juice drippings were perfect to dip the bread and fries in. Total bill for the souvlaki, tzatziki, fries, 500ml beer, and iced latte was under €19. Not sure what Frau Oda “über Karen” Omilia’s 2-star review is about in regards to her complaints about a “scam”, but this is an Uncle Buffet level value deal compared to the €40 tasteless boiled pork knuckle w/ cabbage grift I’ve had all over Germany. EDIT (Oct 27, 2021): IT WAS SO GOOD I CAME BACK!!! This time I got 8 pork souvlaki skewers and also 4 chicken skewers. Chicken is good too, but all the flavor is with the pork. Look, I’ve been to Michelin starred yakitori places in Japan and this place holds its own, easily. And can we talk about the solitary waiter? What other roadside meat-on-a-stick place waiter wears a bowtie? Man deserves a medal, honorary degree, and commemorative statue, and has earned all my tips. What a perfect complement to the lady genius goddess-tier chef. Seriously the meat is grilled and seasoned to perfection. The salt, the paprika, the lemon juice oh vey, oh my, oh dear god! I can’t stress how good this place is. BY FAR the best pork souvlaki I’ve had in all of Greece / the world, basically a religious experience.

Not a tourist trap! To ALL Athenians over 40, the Corinth Canal SOUVLAKI is legendary and connected with beautiful childhood memories. Our parents always stopped there for the view of the canal, the "street-food souvlaki" and to make us happy. The waiter dressed like a maître belongs to the vintage ambient. The quality remains the same since the early 70s (my first memories of the place) and has the taste of authenticity: small skewers with juicy pork meat, enhanced with oregano and lemon juice. All year round, it is a joy for us older Greeks to go down this memory lane, off the modern high speed motorway.
